My research and understanding for this piece comes from my extended involvement with climate action groups such as Extinction Rebellion. The piece takes inspiration from a protest song I have appropriated and sung in climate protests over the course of 2018/19. Based on ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone?’ (Pete Seeger), each verse reflects on an issue pertinent to the climate crisis. The rolling verses unfold a narrative of climate and ecological collapse.
The piece was designed to allow the listener to take their own time in exploring uncomfortable truths. As well as being partially educational and a reminder of all we have to lose, I hope to encourage people to join activist groups like extinction rebellion.
